Pope Benedict commented that condom use is aggravating the AIDS problem in Africa . France were the first to show displeasure on the pope’s commented saying that it considers such comments a threat to public health policies and the duty to protect life.
On Tuesday, the pope said AIDS cannot be overcome by the distribution of condoms. He said that condoms only increase the problem. This contradicts the advice of many health officials, who recommend condoms as a way to prevent the spread of HIV, which causes AIDS.
Meanwhile, Pope Benedict met with Cameroon’s bishops Wednesday and urged them to defend the rights of the poor and the values of the traditional African family.
