Railway exam paper leak

The Special Task Force of Uttar Pradesh and the Special Operation Group of Rajasthan arrested 105 people to bust an inter-state racket behind leaking the Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) exam in five districts of Rajasthan. More than 76,000 candidates were to appear in the exam in 201 centres to select 131 assistant station masters for the Railways’ Ajmer Zone.

Police sources said 84 of those arrested were candidates and 11 others were involved in leaking the paper. The arrests were made from three hotels in Sindhi camp locality of Jaipur early Sunday. The mastermind of the racket, identified by STF as Santosh Singh, escaped.

“Police sent us a copy of the leaked exam paper, which matched the questions of Sunday’s exam. We cancelled the test,” said C L Bharti, chairman of RRB, Ajmer. The exam will be held in April or later, he added.

Bharti said the paper might have been leaked from a press in Gorakhpur, UP,where the question paper was printed. “The press proprieters are in the ambit of investigations and agencies involved in investigating the case will get full support from us,” he said.

According to police, the 11 people accused of leaking the paper and the 83 candidates arrested belong to railway minister Lalu Prasad’s home state Bihar. “Of the 105 people arrested, 83 candidates are from Bihar: six from Uttar Pradesh, four from Rajasthan and one each from Haryana and West Bengal. The 11 others involved in the leak are also from Bihar,” Triveni Singh, deputy SP, STF-UP.
