Dhoni and Selectors clash on selection issues

dhoniIndia captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni [Images] on Saturday dismissed reports that he had offered to resign as captain following a row with the selectors on the exclusion of pacer Rudra Pratap Singh from the ODI squad.

“Speculation is good. I don’t know where the report came from,” he told reporters in Bangalore on the eve of the fourth one-day international against England .

Dhoni also came down hard on the selection meeting details being leaked out to the media.

Dhoni strokes style, spirit and substance
“It cannot be a report because what happens inside a inside meeting when the selectors, the captain and the coaches are there, when it comes out it is disgusting and disrespectful. There will be debates inside and that information should not be put out in the media,” he said.

“Things like this should not be happening. I am not saying something happened at the meeting, but over the years we have seen things being leaked from meetings and things getting out,” the wicketkeeper added.

Media reports on Saturday said that Dhoni had a disagreement with the selectors during the meeting on Thursday to pick the team for the fourth and fifth matches of the ongoing series against England.

Dhoni was unhappy that the selectors decided to drop R P Singh and include Irfan Pathan [Images] in his place and offered to resign, the reports claimed, quoting an unnamed source close to one of the selectors.

Dhoni confirmed that the controversy had affected the team’s preparation ahead of the fourth ODI on Sunday.

“To some extent it does distract us. The good part is that we trust each other, every player in the team trusts each other. I didn’t speak to the Board. I didn’t think it was important. There is a lot that goes around. We have an important match coming up and we chose instead to focus on that match,” he said.

Vikram Pandit Fired From CitiGroup

vikramCitigroup’s board is considering firing its chief executive Vikram S Pandit, who was appointed as CEO late last year to infuse confidence, as the banking giant finds itself searching for hope all over again.

Replacing Pandit– an enthusiastic defender of the company’s existing mix of businesses — is one of the options being considered by Citi executives, along side selling all or part of the company, a public endorsement from the government or a new financial lifeline to stabilise the banking behemoth, after its shares took a sharp plunge this week.

In a series of tense meetings and telephone calls, the executives weighed several options, including whether to replace Pandit or to sell all or part of the company, the New York Times reported.

The killings sent shock waves across the predominantly residential area as it took place right opposite the Police Training College.

Police said while the retired bureaucrat Saravanan (74) was found murdered in kitchen on the first floor of his Bungalow, his wife Kasturi (73) and maid Anbarasi (17) were found dead in the bedroom.

Their throats were slit. According to police, the killers might have used kitchen knive as the murder weapon.

The incident came to light around 0600 hrs when Saravanan’s family friend Unnikrishnan made his routine visit to meet him. On information, senior police officials, including Chennai City Police Commisioner K Radhakrishnan, Deputy Commissioner Muthusamy rushed to the spot and held preliminary inquiries.

The bodies were removed to Royapettah Government Hospital for autopsy. Police have registered a case of murder for gain as the house was ransacked and gold jewels and property documents were found missing. Saravanan was also a former professor of the Presidency college, while his wife was a retired state government official. The aged couple were long- time residents of the area and were friendly with everyone.

As the main doors were found open and the couple had no issues, police suspect the involvement of close family relatives, who could have hired a mercenary gang to execute the murder.
